(Gun) Control of the future

KSG and a smile

The Swiss example

It has long been a Swiss tradition
To avoid any foreign wars
But to plan and promise perdition
To any foe at the door

The Swiss government trusts its people
To be patriots in deed and thought
And by trusting obtain the loyalty
On the level that can't be bought

They show trust by commending
The keeping of serious arms
In return they obtain a people
That keeps its country from harm

The Swiss may someday be vanquished
Though in two hundred years or more
Every invader deemed it
More trouble than it is worth

The same applies to the people
In certain united States
They seek no trouble abroad
But smite any foe they face

Some government gangs or agencies
Endeavor to try the resolve
These ventures will end in tears
For those who are too bold

For people of this free country
Much like the worthy Swiss
Don't fire unless molested
But then very seldom miss

Heller vs. DC 2

Dick Heller and his attorney Dane von Breichenruchardt have been fighting for our Second Amendment rights since 1993. They and their friends put up thousands of days and $3 million into Heller vs. DC and won. That case has become a precedent for many others. His next case aims to restore the right of DC residents to modern arms.

Since Heller and Co. managed to advance our common cause more than most, I propose that my own long-term safety will be more enhanced by supporting his efforts than by buying and stashing one more box of ammo. I gave him $20 instead of buying a box of 45ACP ball. Can you do the same?

Times are tough. If you cannot give $20, would $10 be possible? It's only what a box of 9mm ball would cost. Or maybe you can do better than I did. A box of good defense ammo is closer to $25. Give more if you can.

If money is scarce, you can still help. Link to my appeal or re-post it for others to see. Dick Heller has been fighting to good fight for many years. It's time we've aided him a little.

What would help more?

If you have almost no ammunition on hand, go get more. If you already have a few hundred rounds, consider passing up the next box in favor of helping Heller 2 case. Its success would do much to reduce the need for that ammo stash. Think of it as the strategic move to complement existing tactical preparations. Of the legal advances for gun rights, Heller seems to me the best bang for the buck. I already give money and time to it.

If you can help, please do. A box of ammo's worth isn't much but it buys badly needed legal might. And if short on cash, please re-post this appeal for others to see.

Knock it off, sister!

Affordable 458SOCOM ammunition

Given the high cost of 458SOCOM ammo, I was interested in finding less costly practice ball. 350gr SBR FMJ comes close at $42.25 per box of 20, but even less expensive choices would be nice. Enter Carson hard-cast 300gr ball, about $32.87 per box of 20. Carson loads two versions, standard power and slightly reduced loads. The cast bullet is hard enough to avoid barrel or gas port leading, and it can be used as a non-expanding hunting round with performance identical to 45-70 flat point.

Carson also loads a variety of other bullets. He claims SD under 10fps and correspondingly good accuracy.

Later this week and weekend, I will be passing through Winchester and Elizabethtown in Kentucky, probably with one of my models in tow. Social engagements would be welcome if any of the blog readers happen to be in the area.

I have no idea what the future calibers are going to be. But on this blog, 44 Special, 50BMG and .50 Hush Puppy are come....along with the more mainstream cartridges.

A soldier may lack the time to put on the pants, but the rifle should always be close to hand.

Returned just ahead of the weather front. Had a great trip, that company is like a huge happy family, complete with cats, dogs and kids all in evidence. Saw quite a few interesting things, including one very cool hush-hush rifle project that I will picture in more detail this Spring. Photos of cats and kids also in the works. For now, the first edit, a picture for an iPhone AR15 builder application:

I first noticed Charter Arms because of their support for Dick Heller and his legal team. I later realized that they also make the only left-hand snubbie .38 revolver in the US. So you will be seeing images of their guns posted as a thank-you for their pro-RKBA efforts. This particular revolver holds five rounds of .44 Special and comes with laser grips.

From what I read, the original Charter guns were quite solid and so are the current production weapons. Charter 2000 period is when their reputation suffered.
